The Lexus luxury hybrid car would have more power with the fuel economy equal to compact car. The car is likely to be launched by begining of 2005.
The hybrid version of Lexus will have no change in cabin or cargo space as found in non hybrid version. The exterior, aerodynamic profile and service schedules would also be same as non hybrid cars. The design of this hybrid version is such that it reduces noice. The engine mounts have been moved upwords and air intake track redesigned to decrease the noise.
The nickel-metal battery is used to last lifetime of the vehicle. Plug in is not required for the battery. It uses internal combustion engine and electric motor technology handled by electronic control system. With increased fuel economy it also reduces corbon dioxide emission. Regenerative braking helps electric motor to act as generator while braking. The kinetic energy lost during braking is converted to electrical energy.
