I love muscle cars and would like to see them come back, but if companies just bring them back and destroy it's not worth it. Muscle cars are legacies and they're filling some big shoes when they bring them back, so they need to put a lot more effort into their designs. Hopefully the new Charger will live up to its ancestors. posted by: autoworld (reply) post date: 05.09.04 (11:53 pm) Reply to: newbie Sorry got this picture from one of my friend. I am not a designer so the edit of the picture was poor. However thanks for the comment. The picture is removed. posted by: carguy (reply) post date: 06.26.04 (10:33 am) I think it will have a 6.0 Hemi with 380 Horse. I am not sure how much it will look like the 1999 concept but it will be a four door. www.chrisjhanson.com posted by: Body shop worker (reply) post date: 06.29.04 (8:19 pm) I've seen the body of the car. No windows, etc. so I don't know what the final appearance will be, but so far it looks amazing! It is very much an LX car like the 300's, but with sloped c-pillars and a style line that goes from the rear to just over the rear door handles. Also, it'll come with a 6.1 hemi. posted by: happyjac (reply) post date: 07.03.04 (10:32 am) It will be shown ("sprung" might be a better word) at the 2005 NAIAS and go into production ASAP afterwards, definitely before summer '05. 5.7 Hemi, 6.1 Hemi/425+ hp, possibly one or two V6 options, though last I heard that was up in the air -- it may be a Hemi-only deal. 2+2 suicide doors with a coupe look, like the RX-8. Magnum RT dash and interior trim, with a few retro cues. 6.1 won't be available until fall and will come with appearance changes and signifcant suspension upgrades -- priced in the mid-$30s. There's an even bigger/meaner Hemi V8 under development, too (I'll let you guess the size -- yes, it is 1968 all over again) which will be intended as a smackdown for the LS7 and whatever this "hurricane" foolishness is that Ford is cooking up... posted by: hemiguy (reply) post date: 08.01.04 (10:23 pm) I just bought a Hemi - C and absolutely love it . I will be looking to buy a charger next year . What a proud day for dodge people when the Charger is revived . I am like the rest of you when it comes to bringing back the past muscle cars . Give us all the horsepower we have craved for so long . I want to blow the Vettes and GTO's away the way the Hemi's did of old . Ford and Chevy have become old and tired . Let Dodge rule once again . Bring back the Charger and let the smoke roll again . posted by: 1970coronet (reply) post date: 08.05.04 (6:47 am) I would like to see a 6-speed with the classic pistol grip shifter. yes bring on the 6.1!!!! he he he lets bump the hp out to 500. gotta show them whos boss!!! posted by: Marty (reply) post date: 09.05.04 (9:03 pm) hey...im only 22 and i bought a 72 Charger SE when i was 16 (my first car) when or if they bring out a new one in 2006 i hope it looks like a Charger...as in body lines and if youve ever seen a Charger then you know what im talking about... personally i think it should be putting out a load of power as well (4 and a 1/4+ is realistic isnt it?), Hot Rod mag. has some cool pics of what they think it might be and to me its on the dot. The side body lines are what make the Charger known (my opinion). The new GTO is a grand prix.(period) Dodge will make us proud. posted by: Barry (reply) post date: 09.30.04 (4:07 pm) I got the pleasure to see the 99 concept that was shot down for some crazy reason at a car show in indy. What a car it was wonderful to look at it showed muscle, finess and body lines that make any supermodel look ugly. I was hoping it would be put into production I would have sold every thing I had to have one. Chrysler needs to do it and do it right. posted by: Jarvis (reply) post date: 10.06.04 (12:05 am) I a nice car. I has two doors its like a coupe. The front end looks almost like the magnum, but I still like it. posted by: newbie (reply) post date: 10.22.04 (5:02 pm) In Daimler's Spin Zone..."The Detroit News"...Chrysler's design chief Trevor Creed is quoted as saying, "...If the Charger had lived, this is how I believe it would have evolved." Well then, someone should slap Charles Darwin because the depiction that I saw of the new Charger was a vile and grotesque mutation, not an evolutionary improvement upon the appealing lines and aggressive stance that were the Charger's origin. Instead of Mr. Creed bringing us "The Origin of Species," he has brought us "The Origin of Feces," because that is what his vision of the new Charger looks like. For the evolutionary process there has to be at least some of the original DNA present at the end of each change. In the case of the new Charger there is absolutely none. Instead, the common house fly has more in common with the American Bald Eagle than this new imposter vehicle has with the original Chargers. Furthermore, if this designer had been put in charge of the evolution of the dinosaurs, I would have voted for their extinction. Daimler's design department may have whiz kids, super computers and 3-D modeling, but I believe that they may have gotten better results using an "Etch-A-Sketch," a monkey and a bottle of Jim Beam." At the least it may have gotten them away from their apparent fixation with the Ford Maverick. Now in Singapore a person can be caned for spray-painting graffiti on automobiles. Tell me, what is the penalty for using a "Bait & Switch" routine: First, showcasing the exciting '99 Charger concept car, and then secondly, spreading graffiti across the muscle car heritage of the Chrysler Corporation and upon its loyal customers? In closing, I apologize to Mr. Creed if these comments appear too harsh, but on this day it is too difficult to restrain the tremendous disappointment that this former Daimler-Chrysler customer now feels. posted by: newbie (reply) post date: 11.03.04 (9:07 am) I've been at the Brampton plant and have seen the new Charger. DaimlerChrysler mostly keeps the covers on the vehicles even inside the plant, but the covers are off in a certain back room and occasionally in the audit area. The front grill is reminiscent of a shark. The dash is the same as a Magnum. The car looks STRONG, like it's ready to POUNCE on any unwary, or even wary, mustangs or gtos - lower case is intentional. Everyone is entitled to their own opinion, but I think Dodge is going to have a very hot seller on their hands. Customers will vote with their pocketbooks and I plan to buy me a CHARGER. posted by: newbie (reply) post date: 11.23.04 (6:36 am) that charger is ugly. why in the world didnt they build the 99 concept car? what a dissapointment. they could have sold every single one of the 99 car and then some. whats up with this deal? posted by: newbie (reply) post date: 11.24.04 (8:07 am) i cant wait until this car comes to the market. posted by: newbie (reply) post date: 12.23.04 (4:51 pm) In Daimler's Spin Zone..."The Detroit News", Trevor Creed, Chrysler's design chief is quoted as saying, "...If the Charger had lived, this is how I believe it would have evolved." This is supposed to be the 40Th anniversary, re-introduction of a once great (still great) muscle car. The 99 concept car gave me hope that they had done their homework and not goofed again like they did in the 80's re-introduction. I have been looking forward to this new car for many years and wanted to purchase one. I dare say if this is what they want to present as the 2006 Charger they must have taken leave of their senses. It looks like a Buick in front with almost Challenger styled quarter panels and a sandwiched intrepid trunk lid. Not one piece of this car remotely reflects a Charger of any era and don't even get me started on the bland sided four doors it's been given. I own a 67, 440 Mag Charger Fastback and feel they have let all current proud Charger owner's and potential owner's down. This re-introduction if not re-thought will fall flat on it's snub ugly nose. Introduce it as something else but please don't call this car a Charger. Needless to say, I'm Bummed, man! posted by: newbie (reply) post date: 01.09.05 (9:38 pm) I think the new Charger is a disgrace to the name Charger. It looks like something an old lady would drive. They should have went with the design from popular hotrodding's website. I would have bought one if they looked like that. What a huge letdown. 2 big thumbs down and shame on you Dodge for such an ugly car. posted by: newbie (reply) post date: 01.10.05 (10:37 am) THAT SHIT IS TIGHT posted by: newbie (reply) post date: 01.10.05 (10:39 am) HOW MUCH HORSEPOWER posted by: newbie (reply) post date: 01.10.05 (10:40 am) WHAT ARE THE COLORS posted by: newbie (reply) post date: 01.10.05 (10:41 am) I ASK FOR THE CLORS posted by: Travis (reply) post date: 01.10.05 (11:33 pm) "THAT SHIT IS TIGHT"?! What is wrong with you?! What, are you some little rice burner?! This 'new Charger', and I use the term 'new Charger' loosely here, like the GTO, is *not* worthy of it's title. Calling this car one of the ugliest pieces of metal to ever be forged gives it way more credit than it deserves. At least the GTO and Mustang *look* decent. This looks like the retarded lovechild of the Mustang and Buick. posted by: yo mama (reply) post date: 01.11.05 (8:44 am) dudes the new car graphics are hot but make it better than the pontiac gto. show up unexpected da mustang posted by: Juno (reply) post date: 01.11.05 (5:43 pm) The Chief Engineer of the new Dodge Charger will be taking questions in a live chat on Thursday night 9pm ET/6pm ET. Dodge apparently is saying the hell with the young at heart and hellow grandma! posted by: Tom (reply) post date: 01.19.05 (8:55 am) I see the designers are related to the 3 blind mice. I think Mr. Creed should take the Forest Gump approch, and say " I not a smart man". Then again I think Ford and GM should thank him, I"m sure there sports car sale will increase, with this release of this nice family car, my grandmother says it looks like a nice safe car, and i should buy it for my daughter to drive. But my daughter says she would be embarrised to drive that, Congradulation's you have just sold another Mustang!!!!!! posted by: Jessy (reply) post date: 01.19.05 (3:04 pm) This is The Worst ever couldn't wait for the new charger and now that i've seen it i can't wait for dodge tell us its all a big joke it is brutal its the car version of the magnum yes its powerfull but still it needs only 2 doors and shape it like its old school posted by: cavigirl (reply) post date: 02.12.05 (12:54 pm) I must say I am so insulted by this new "charger"...This is not a charger! Four Doors?! Why don't they just call it a magnum without the hatch, I saw the '99 concept, it was a beauty, could have done the name proud, I would also like to say to the designers of this new flop, I concur with the others, Are you on crack!? I came home from the hospital with my mother in a 1969 Dodge dart, I have loved muscle cars my whole life, always been a dodge and chevy fan, but as sad as it is to say, they have both let me way down these few year, I'm going to convert to a saturn fan! posted by: zmoney (reply) post date: 02.15.05 (10:59 am) It's ugly as hell! I AM DISSAPOINTED TO SAY THE LEAST.. THE BASIC CAR LOOKS LIKE A NEW CHRYSLER 300 WITH THE FRONT END OF A BMW & REAREND FROM A DODGE INTREPID. I AM THE CURRENT OWNER OF (3) DODGE CHARGERS (1969, 1970 & 1972) AND THOUGHT THE MOPAR DESIGNERS WOULD TAKE SOME STYLING CUES FROM THE NEW CHARGER BASED ON THOSE YEARS CAR.. THE ONLY STYLING CUE I SAW WAS THE "R/T" EMBLEM ON THE TRUNK AND GRILLE.. THE SPIN DOCTOR DESCRIBING THE CAR AT THE AUTO SHOW SAID THE CAR HAD TO BE A 4 DOOR FOR PRACTICALITY BECAUSE IT WAS REPLACING THE DODGE INTREPID.. THE GERMAN DESIGN TEAM FOR AMERICAN CHRYSLER/DODGE CARS IS A BAD INFLUENCE ON OUR AMERICAN MUSCLE CAR HERITAGE.. THEY HAVE BEEN MAKING 4 DOOR AUTOBOHN CARS AND THEY EXPECT US TO ACCEPT THEM.... I WOULD HATE TO SEE WHAT TYPE OF CAR THE DESIGNERS AT CHRYSLER WOULD COME UP WITH FOR A NEW CHALLENGER OR CUDA CONCEPT CAR..
